South West Image Bank

New branding for old photo library

October 17, 2012

The South West Image Bank is owned by the Plymouth Barbican Trust. It looks after millions of historical images and offers services such as preservation, restoration and learning from their gallery on Plymouth’s historical Barbican district.

Shred was approached to create a leaflet for SWIB, as with many design projects that arrive at Shred we had very little to work with other than some images and text and the ideas of the image banks curators. Overall the feel needed to be sharp and punchy, not the usual sort of predictable ‘heritage’ look as whilst many of the images are old, just as many are from the 50s and 60s and would be appealing to designers and a younger audience for use in creative projects.
The end result was good, we had to give SWIB a bit of a ‘rebrand’ to create some strong colours and combined with their stunning imagery the end result had the right feel, the client was delighted and are already open for business.
